The event was over just as fast as it started, but the impression it left will be felt and talked about for years to come. So many conventions come and go, one piggy backing onto another with ideas similar to the last, be it cards, comics, fan fairs or other wise. Amongst all the recycled thoughts came Geek Girl Con a chance for a band of women and men volunteers who put in months and months of effort to make a home for those to come.
There were many who questioned if this event would work, if it would be a success, if it would be a forum of complaining, or if it would be a true chance to learn, grow, bond and advance, and I have to say from my point of view it was all of the above. Some came with a chip on their shoulder and wanted a chance to vent, some came to hear what others had to say or had experienced, and others came to share their success, their happiness and their victories as they established the understanding, ”It does not matter if you are male or female, if you have talent, get out there and share it”.
Some panels were quiet as they attempted to get a shy audience sharing and speaking, and other panels had SO MUCH ENERGY you could not help but laugh, clap and cheer to celebrate what this event was creating. Geek Girl Con 2011 was a complete sell out, and if in the first year that is not a success, I don’t know what is.
We will be posting more coverage on individual panels, interviews and pictures over the next few days, as well a follow up guest on this Thursday’s The Button Mash, will be Lani Blazier who was the Game Director for GGC. So stay tuned, lots more on this great event to come.
