It’s been about 8 years since we’ve seen Max Payne, what has he been up to? Apparently his life has hit yet another downward spiral with him at the bottom surrounded by alcohol, drugs and a middle age pot belly. Max is off the police force, no surprise for our psychologically damaged and addicted anti-hero, and working protection in the private sector. In the trailer a disheveled, broken-down Max Payne explains in his gravelly voice, that he was working on a job in São Paulo when he got caught up in a kidnapping. That’s when the deification hits the oscillation, Max decides the best solution comes from the barrel of a gun and we watch him shoot, punch and bullet time his way through the baddies.
The game looks like it’s going to be a lot of the same shoot ‘em up Max Payne we’ve come to know, but I’m not to sure I like the setting. It doesn’t seem to me like the dark and cold stories of Max’s life can effectively be told in a place that is warm and sunny. We’ll have to see if the team at Rockstar Vancouver can pull it off, word is that the game has already gone through several rewrites and the team is working double overtime to get the game done for March. Looks like it’s going to be a long, cold, hard winter for the Canadian team, something they are probably used to in Vancouver.
