It is a story that in this industry which has been told so very many times. Think outside the box, do what has not been done, and create that which has not yet been created. When you break things down to the basics, there are very few new ideas in the gaming world. So what do you do? Well you take an idea that has been around since card games, or ones that were written on scraps of paper with pencils, you add some pictures, sounds and make games like Book Worm.
Pop Cap Games has given the us titles like Bedazzled, Plants Vs. Zombies, Peggle and others over consoles, mobile sites and mobile devices. With over 150 million games sold, this has caught the eye of fans and also that of Electronic Arts. Depending on which feed you read, the sale is estimated to be around 750 million dollars in a combination of cash and shares.
How will this change as the Washington State based POP CAP games join’s forces with the California based EA? Only time will tell, but the people at POP CAP seem positive that it will only increase their ability to build more quality games, and reach an even larger market. I personally love their news on the site of potential cross overs, although I will not get my hopes up for a Bejewelled Battlefield Blitz.
