TETRIS: Has a new platform

From Russia to Google with love...

The year was 1984 and a puzzle game by the name of TETRIS, designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov, was first released in the Soviet Union.  The premise was simple: blocks in 7 different shapes fall from above, and if you fill a line from left to right, that row disappears.  If you can have 4 rows disappear at one time, that is called a “TETRIS”.  One line is worth some points, 4 lines is worth bonus points.  Depending on the version, after a number of rows disappear you progress to the next level.  Nothing changes, but the music eventually gets a faster tone, and the pieces drop from above at a faster and faster pace.

You would think a game like that when put before a group of purchasers would not cause much interest but in 1986 when it hit the North American arcades, it set it’s spot in history as one of the top 100 games of all time.

Since it’s release 27 years ago it has been found on over 50 platforms and over 180 countries.  Not bad for a simple game with a few stacking blocks.  So now it is going to a new platform and you can grab it for FREE, on the Android network.  Yes that is true, for your phone or tablet you can re-visit the classic with improved visuals to the sweet sounds that made TETRIS a household name.  So grab your droid and play one of the best ever.  What level can you get to?
