Xbox Live will be coming to Windows 8 and says Mike Delman, vice president of global marketing at Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business group. Exciting news, but what will it actually bring to your PC?
Unfortunately if you have dreams of gaming with your PC mouse and keyboard and owning console users and they fumble with clumsy thumsticks, it looks like we’re not there yet. While not a lot of information was given, Delman did say, “Xbox Live will the pervasive media service across devices.” and, “Whether it’s us or Apple or anybody else, people want to be able to navigate through multiple devices in a certain ecosystem very seamlessly so we’re committed to that.”
So Xbox Live’s rich and powerful platform is going to become an integral part of your media experience across multiple devices. This announcement doesn’t impact gamers too much, just that Xbox is moving away from a gamer focused service and more towards a total media service. However Major Nelson wrote in his blog, “We have much more detail to share about the capabilities of Xbox LIVE on Windows and look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future.” So let’s be patient and hopefully there will be some more changes that can really enrich our gaming experience.
