GSL season is upon us again and with it another month and a half of top class SC2 play.
This season many are not too surprised/disappointed to see the race mix in this years season.
- Code S: 32 players, 20 Terran, 7 Zerg, 5 Protoss
- Code A: 32 players, 8 Terran, 12 Zerg, 12 Protoss
Where Code: A has a relativity even race mix Code: S has become heavily skewed towards Terran, which many fans claim causes the whole tournament to be less enjoyable to watch due to the fact that many of the games wind up being mainly TvT. Group A alone is all Terran.
Many blame its pro race balance to the format of the GSL itself and how it limits the amount of new players introduced to the competition by making it almost impossible to have players drop out of Codes: A&B. Every season a maximum of 16 players will drop out of only Code:A leaving 48 of the same players in the higher leagues were they continue on. Others believe its because of race balance where Terran have a slight edge over the other races, and others that fact that so many different Terran builds and units can be utilized in a game were other races don’t have nearly as much variety.
What ever the reason, the other races will have a hard time breaking this death grip Terran has on Code: S but I for one have been rooting for my fellow Bro-Toss to pull of a miracle run (A guy can dream cant he?)
